Market Clearing and Krusell-Smith Algorithm in an Economy with Multiple Assets

چکیده

Abstract This paper proposes a novel method to compute the Krusell and Smith (1997, 1998) algorithm, used for solving heterogeneous-agents models with aggregate risk incomplete markets when households can save in more than one asset. When solve model asset, standard algorithm has impose equilibria each additional asset (find market-clearing price) period simulated. procedure entails root-finding period, which is computationally expensive. I show that it possible avoid at this level by not imposing but instead temporarily suspending market clearing. The proposed then updates law of motion prices using information on excess demand assets via Newton-like method. Since avoids time simulated, leads significant reduction computation time. In example two assets, version an 80% decrease computational time, even measured conservatively. potentially useful computing general equilibrium asset-pricing risky safe featuring both uninsurable idiosyncratic risk, since methods use linearisation neighborhood steady state are considered be less accurate global solution such models.

Recursive Equilibrium in Krusell and Smith (1998)∗

I combine the tools developed in two important and independent literatures one on large economies started with Aumann (1964) and the other on dynamically incomplete markets, notably Duffie et al. (1994) to study Krusell and Smith’s incomplete markets economy with both idiosyncratic and aggregate shocks. I show the existence of generalized recursive equilibrium and characterize several important...

Money and Growth in a Production Economy with Multiple Assets

We consider a Diamond-type model of endogenous growth in which there are three assets: fiat money, government bonds, and equity. Because of productivity shocks, the equity return is uncertain, and risk-averse investors require a positive equity premium. Typically, there exist two steady states, but only one of them turns out to be stable. Tight monetary policy is harmful for growth in the stabl...

A Dynamic Market Clearing Price Mechanism with Multiple Demands*

We propose a dynamic selling procedure for the generalization of the buyer-seller market game of Shapley and Shubik (1972) to the case where buyers can purchase more than one indivisible object, up to their quota, and have separable and additive utilities. This mechanism generalizes the auction studied by Demange et al. (1986), which in its turn is a generalization of the English auction to the...

Optimal Investment with Multiple Risky Assets for an Insurer in an Incomplete Market

This paper studies the optimal investment problem for an insurer in an incompletemarket. The insurer’s risk process ismodeled by a Lévy process and the insurer is supposed to have the option of investing inmultiple risky assets whose price processes are described by the standard Black-Scholes model. The insurer aims to maximize the expected utility of terminal wealth. After the market is complet...

Solving the incomplete markets model with aggregate uncertainty using the Krusell–Smith algorithm and non-stochastic simulations

This article describes the approach to computing the version of the stochastic growth model with idiosyncratic and aggregate risk that relies on collapsing the aggregate state space down to a small number of moments used to forecast future prices. One innovation relative to most of the literature is the use of a non-stochastic simulation routine. & 2009 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
